I've come to this posting rather late in the day so it is not in fact still Valentine's Day at all. Never mind. I will say that it's the thought that counts and leave it at that.
Janet says that cupids don't have anything to do with Valentine's Day but the best cartoon I ever saw about it was by Ben Wicks on the front page of the Montreal Gazette in the late 70's. It was a picture of a pregnant woman running along with a baby carriage and looking over her shoulder at cupid taking aim at her. She looks horrified. I admit it's rather cynical but it tickled me and still does.
Valentine's Day was busy for me but I forgot what day it was until Aidan showed up with a bag of chocolates and a card he made for me. I was touched and felt very loved. I got to pick him up after school today because Fleur got a flat tire on her bike and had to take it in to get it repaired. At the same time she picked up her other bike that was in the shop to have both brakes replaced. It has been a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad week for her this week but her bad luck was my opportunity to hang out with Aidan.
Then Spencer came over and he and Aidan fixed the screws on my shelf and it's not sloping off the wall any more. Now I can put things on it again and people can sit near it without feeling it's going to fall off the wall onto their heads. I made dinner for Spencer afterwards and we ended up talking until well after 1 a.m.
I also had a phone call from Julie in Toronto. She had all her Valentine's taken straight to storage this year as it's such a drag to have them all delivered and then have to put them into storage until you have time to read them all. Who has that much time? The trucks block the street and cause inconvenience for the whole neighbourhood. Not to mention the fact that it makes other people feel envious and left out because they don't get that many Valentines. We're both so wildly popular and have so many suitors that we have to make these arrangements every year. It's tough, but there you are. Popularity has its price.
All-in-all, I would say it was a good day. I had fun and good conversation. Hope you all did as well. You're all in my heart as always.
